Reiki Therapy

What is Reiki?

The word “Reiki” is made of two Japanese words often defined as Rei (higher power) and Ki (universal life force energy). Reiki is a natural healing modality that relies on the healing intention of a Reiki Master or practitioner. It is a simple, gentle, and relaxing process that can greatly benefit the individual in their overall health and wellness. Reiki is a Japanese technique that is used to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing. This technique is administered by “laying hands” on or above the individual with the idea that the unseen “universal life force energy” that flows through us can be healed by the help of a Reiki Master. If one's “universal life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get an illness or cause great stress within ourselves. After a Reiki session, individuals energies become “higher” due to the Reiki Master aiding in the flow of the universal energy inside of them to promote the healing. Reiki treats the whole person including the mind, spirit, physical and emotional body that promotes relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

What does Reiki feel like?

For everyone its different. Some individuals say they feel warmth or see lights behind their eyelids, while other’s say it helps reduce the feeling of pain. Although, all individuals claim to have a positive and uplifting experience after a session.

Is Reiki a religion?

Reiki is a science. It is not a part of any particular religion and can be used by people of any faith.

Where does the “universal life energy” come from?

Reiki energy is a subtle energy, which is different than electric, chemical or physical energy. Reiki energy comes from a “higher power", which exists on a higher dimension than the physical world we are familiar with and currently experiencing. When viewed clairvoyantly, Reiki energy appears to come down from above and enters the top of the practitioners head after which, flows through the body and out the hands. It appears to flow this way because of our perspective. However, the true source of Reiki energy is within ourselves and that energy is coming from a transcendental part of ourselves that is connected to an infinite supply of healing energy from the “divine” or “higher power”.

How is a Reiki Therapy given?

In a standard Reiki session, energy flows from the practitioners hands onto the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs and each position is held for three to ten minutes depending.

What can be treated with Reiki?

Reiki has been known to have a positive and healing effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. Although we cannot claim Reiki can do all these things, people have reported that they have had a reduction in pain and in some cases, people have experienced complete healings which have been confirmed by medical tests before and after the Reiki sessions. However, while some have experienced miracles, it cannot be guaranteed for everyone. Majority of individuals experience stress reduction with some improvement in one's physical and psychological conditions.

Is Reiki safe?

Reiki is safe for ALL living things including animals, babies, and pregnant woman.

Is Reiki safe while taking medications or under going medical treatments?

Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results. However, if one has a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see their licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki.

Are there any side effects from Reiki?

Majority of people will feel relaxed, uplifted and calm after a session. However, sometimes an individual will have what is called a "healing crisis” which means as the individual’s energy vibration goes up, toxins that have been previously stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, the individual can experience a headache or stomach upset or even feel weak. If this does happen, no need to panic- this means the body is cleansing which is a part of the healing process and a good sign. When this happens, we recommend that the individual increase water intake, eat more fruits and vegetables and to get more rest.
